The closing night performance of Twelfth Night went ahead and was successfully completed.

To show our appreciation to the dedicated audience, we are pleased to advise that all those that attended can reuse their tickets at the 2011 Sydney Shakespeare Festival.

As the weather was very wet in the hour preceding the performance, if you purchased tickets online and chose not to attend, we have decided to make an exception and enable you to redeem your tickets at the 2011 Sydney Shakespeare Festival. To redeem your tickets, please forward your email confirmation from Moshtix to info@sydneyshakespearefestival.com.au.

Weather update 14 February performance

We are going to endeavour to complete tonight's performance of Twelfth Night which starts at 8pm.

If necessary, we will perform through light rain, so please make sure you bring a waterproof jacket, an umbrella and a ground sheet to protect you from the elements. If rain becomes persistent or heavy, we may stop the performance for a few minutes until it eases and then continue on. There are large trees and a pavilion to take shelter under during this time.

If the performance is deemed 'rained out' prior to or at any time during the performance, there are no refunds, however, you can redeem your tickets at the 2011 Sydney Shakespeare Festival.

If you purchased tickets through Moshix but decide not to attend and we complete the performance, depending on how the weather pans out this evening, we may decide to make an exception and enable you to redeem your tickets at the 2011 Sydney Shakespeare Festival. Please contact us at info@sydneyshakespearefestival.com.au after the performance to enquire about this.

2010 Sydney Shakespeare Festival: Twelfth Night and The Merchant of Venice

Pack a picnic, grab your friends and celebrate summer with a night of theatrical magic on Sydney’s fabulous harbour foreshore.

Proudly supported by the City of Sydney, the 2010 Sydney Shakespeare Festival kicks off in January with performances on alternate nights of Shakespeare’s wicked, yet poignant crowd-pleaser, Twelfth Night and his provocative and unsettling comedy, The Merchant of Venice. FREE for children 12 years and under, people with disabilities and people aged 65 years and over, the festival will take place in Bicentennial Park, Glebe Foreshore every Thursday to Sunday at 8pm from 7 January until 14 February 2010.

“Shakespeare’s plays have captured the imagination of millions of people throughout the world for over 400 years and are as exciting and provocative now as the day they were written,” said Julie Baz, Artistic Director and co-founder of the festival. In Twelfth Night, cross-dressing, mistaken identity, heroes, villains and all kinds of gamesmanship are in abundance. The pursuit of love is revealed as a vexing, troubled and potentially humiliating pastime, a kind of emotional shipwreck that ends either in disaster or salvation. In The Merchant of Venice, when a bride is won with an enemy’s money, the debt must be repaid. In arguably Shakespeare’s most controversial play, competing claims of tolerance, prejudice, justice and mercy are played out in some of his most electrifying scenes. In the character of Shylock, Shakespeare created one of the most unforgettable outsiders in all theatre.

In its third year, the annual Sydney Shakespeare Festival has fast become one of Sydney’s summer event highlights. “Outdoor theatre is the most accessible and historical performance style and it’s a great way to spend a summer evening,” said David Jeffrey, co-founder of the festival. “You can bring a picnic, enjoy a glass of wine and experience the wonder of Shakespeare under the stars, all while taking in spectacular views of Sydney Harbour, the city skyline and surrounding urban parkland.”

Directed by Baz and designed by Jeffrey, the festival will be brought to life by a versatile and multi-talented ensemble cast who will perform in both plays. The cast includes John Burdon, Joshua Combes, Christina Falsone, Tori Hartigan, Richard Hilliar, David Jeffrey, Bradley Linney, Cherilyn Price, Roger Adam Smith, Jacob Thomas and Nicole Wineberg.

In its third year, Sydney Shakespeare Festival has fast become a fixture on Sydney's summer calendar. Audiences enjoy a picnic and take in the spectacular views of Sydney Harbour and city skyline as they experience the thrill of outdoor theatre combined with the pure genius of Shakespeare. For the 2010 festival one cast will perform (on alternate nights) Twelfth Night and The Merchant of Venice directed by artistic director and co-founder Julie Baz.

Mistaken identity, heroes, villains and all kinds of gamesmanship are in abundance in this crowd-pleasing, yet wicked and poignant comedy. Throughout, the pursuit of love is revealed as a vexing, troubled and potentially humiliating pastime, a kind of emotional shipwreck that ends either in disaster or salvation...

The Merchant of Venice
When a bride is won with an enemy's money, the debt must be repaid. In this unsettling, provocative and controversial comedy, competing claims of tolerance, prejudice, justice and mercy are played out in some of Shakespeare's most electrifying scenes.

Actors required
2 x males 25–35 years (multiple roles in each play - to be decided)
1 x female 25-35 years (Viola in Twelfth Night and Nerissa and Salarino in The Merchant of Venice)

NB. As we perform outdoors, our actors need to be resilient to the elements and demonstrate in the audition the capacity to deliver highly energised performances utilising strong vocal projection.
